My periods have been very irregular ever since I had my daughter over 3 yrs ago. I want to have another baby very bad, but I never know whens the best times, and I can’t buy those ovulation tests all the time…so what can I do?

I have the same problem mty cycles are any where from 28-35 days so what I do is use opk and you take your longest cycle say 40 days and subtract 18days so if it’s 40 days then you would count day 26 and take your shortest cycle and subtract 16 so from day 12 to about day 26 consider yourself fertile so bd every other day from day 12 to 26 and you will be covered for sure
You can base it on your cervical mucus, i.e., the white egg white quality indicates that you are most fertile at that time. You can also go by cervical position, if it’s high and soft…that can be another indicator of ovulation. There are other indicators but those two seem to be more accurate, I personally think that the cervical mucus indicator is the easiest and most convenient to keep track of.
Buying OPKs is what worked for me to figure out ovulation. But you might want to talk to your doctor about giving you something to help regulate your periods because with irregular it can make it difficult and you may not ovulate regular as well. There is an herb called Vitex/Chasteberry that is suppose to regulate periods, ovulation and also cut down on cramping. My friend has really good luck with it and I started taking it about 2 weeks ago. You can buy it at GNC or Vitamin World for about $10 for 100 capsules. You could give your doctor a call about that too. Good luck to you and lots of baby dust~~~~~~~~~~~~
There is lots of great info about Vitex/Chasteberry online as well.
I just went to the doctor because we would like another child. I stop taking birth control in December and my cycles are not normal. He told me I could be ovulating between 12 and 30 days different! There is a website I believe its http://www.earlypregnancytest.com and they have ovulation strips you can buy for like 92cent it strip. It’s cheap the more you buy the cheaper they are. They do work.
I have had irregular periods forever … and think OPK are first best option (amazon has some real cheap deals check them out or even Ebay!)
Next is cervical mucus … there is lot of stuff online where you can study to read cervical mucus.
Both these helped me get pregnant the first month we tried for our son (2 1/2 now)
If you are going for cervical mucus…try studying it for couple of months before trying to concieve so that it is easier and familiar to you
Best of luck
1. cervical mucous
2. cervical positioning
Some people also get cramping or headaches when they are about to ovulate. If you want to be sure you will automatically hit ovualtion, and you don’t want to use OPKs, then I would BD every other day religiously! Then you know you won’t miss your fertility window!
I would also, highly recommend, taking your waking basal body temperature. It doesn’t necessarily predict ovulation but it will 100% confirm exactly when you ovulated. This is helpful in knowing when to test and you can also look for signs within your temp to know if you are showing signs of prenancy. I knew from my temps ( fertilityfriend.com is AWESOME and they calculated EVERYTHING for me and told me whether I had implantation dip, etc.). It is a free site and it is cheap and easy to take your bbt (just invest in a bbt thermometer and that is it). Check out fertilityfriend.com it was the best thing I did. It explains everything there.
