It’s common knowledge that in order conceive we have to have sex during our fertile time and that period happens when we’re ovulating. Sometimes we feel like we tried everything but we still not falling pregnant and it could be because we missed our ovulation window and most women doesn’t know their ovulation period.

Ovulation is the medical term used when egg is released from women’s ovary and conception occurs when a sperm meet and fertilised the egg. So the right time to make baby is around the time when ovulation occurs and 24 hours after the ovulation occurs. Generally is to count back 12 to 16 days from when your next period begins and for women who have 28 days cycle the most fertile period is around 14 day after your last period started.

There are several methods available to detect our fertile period or our ovulation time such as ovulation calculator and ovulation chart. Even though using only one of either changes in cervical mucus discharge or basal body temperature is sufficient when constructing ovulation chart, it is recommended to use both changes in cervical mucus discharge and basal body temperature for more accurate estimation of ovulation period.

During our ovulation, our cervical mucus usually change, it increases in quantity and change in texture. It becomes more clear, slimy and elastic. Our basal body temperature (temperature taken directly after we wake up or after 3 hours of uninterrupted sleep) is usually rising too during ovulation, because when the body release the egg it stimulates the production of progesterone which in turn raises our body temperature. It is common beliefs that our most fertile is 2 to 3 days before our temperature reaches its peak point.

The easiest and simplest way to spot your ovulation is to buy ovulation kit offered in the store. There are two types of ovulation kit offered, saliva based and urine based. Urine based ovulation kit used to test the amount of luteinizing hormone that usually peaked during ovulation. This type of ovulation kit usually cheap but when used for long period of time the combined cost could be expensive. The other type is saliva based which usually in form of small microscope. The initial cost is more expensive that urine based ovulation kit but when use for long period it could be advantages.
